Yes this is an over sight, however, it remains the same that with referencing the articles there needs to be a " proper " naming of the title no matter how brief such as: " though not mentioned in the article, this also applies to Rolling Back Firmware to an earlier version " how simple is this to do, even if the article does not state this but the person/s quoting and or linking the article could simply state this themselves if they know that this is the case. Still pays to store this at forefront for future referencing. Update in quick thoughts comes to me as updating to the " latest or newest " not actually replacing or downgrading something. I have to slightly lean towards PWG's side here as the QNAPedia article: Manually Updating Firmware linked by Patrick simply discusses the " Updating " of Firmware not anywhere does the article mention " Roll-Back ", which is not a fault of Patrick whom kindly linked the article. (Doing so will prevent you from seeing any of my 5700+ posts, so that I don't offend you again). I respectfully ask you to do the same for me. I have added you to my Foe list, so I don't accidentally attempt to help you again. Please contact QNAP Customer Service for further assistance, they actually get "paid" to help people, even the " snarky" ones. Your " snarky" choice of words, and sarcastic attitude doesn't instill a desire to assist you further. The reference I provided reads: Manually Updating Firmware, it doesn't make any reference to "upgrading" just "updating". I did read both your post, and the title.

You are still "updating" the Firmware installed on the NAS, even if you install a previous version of the Firmware. Whether you are going backwards or forwards the process is the same. The new UI may be fine on larger units, but on the TS412 it is just too heavy, and with little memory, makes itself completely unusable.

I'm trying to roll the firmware back, not update it.

there should be no customer "expense" to repair a device owned by a customer in good standing because of a software update.Pwg wrote:Thanks for NOT reading my post, or even the title. What I think should happen, is the corporate stores be given the tools and training to make this happen. What is unfortunate IMHO is an OEM putting a trap like a KNOX flag that trips when a poor customer's device has been rendered greatly inoperative if they should attempt to revert to a previous, well-vetted, stable STOCK software configuration. I'm no lawyer, but hardly do I feel that violates nor should violate a warranty. However, if a person is merely putting a stock / approved for OTA software load back on their device, and doing so to "fix" a device's behavior (and I'm not sure one has to assert privs to do this). I agreed with your post.Īsserting super-user privs to modify the phone is one issue. Yeah, I was using a little wordplay to be fun and obtuse, but I didn't mean to at your expense. Nice.Īll is not well in CandyLand's Lollipop village. Now, I'm having problems with the Google Keyboard I loaded to replace it. I'd been having problems under Lollipop with Swype. Had to log into a computer to leave this reply.
